Family Photos in Portugal

Real family sessions with toddlers and older children: on the sand at sunset, in a green park and across the open squares of Lisbon.

Real families, not stock Relaxed and unposed Updated October 2026

These family photos in Portugal come from real sessions with parents, toddlers and older children, shot at a pace that lets small children be small children.

A family session is different from a couple session. Children get tired, hungry and curious, so we keep the walk short, stop when they want to stop and photograph what happens: a hand held on wet sand, a toddler lifted into the air, a parent laughing at something said off camera. The photos below show that rhythm.

Quick answer

Short walks, easy places and plenty of room for children to move. Beaches, parks and wide squares work best. A 1 hour session gives time for a break, and each session covers up to 2 people, with more people able to join; the terms are on the booking page.

On the sand at golden hour

Wet sand, low light and open sea make a calm backdrop for young children. The light is warm in the hour before sunset, and children are often at their best then, after a day of playing. Dress in plain colours so the sea and sky do the work.

Parks, doors and cobbled paths

Not every family wants the beach. A green park with a cobbled path or a street with a tall wooden door gives you colour and texture without much walking.

Tell us your children’s ages and your date and we will choose a place and a pace that suits them.

Open squares in Lisbon

The wide plazas in downtown Lisbon give a family space to move while the photographer keeps a distance. The yellow arcades of Praça do Comércio make a clean background, and cafés are a short walk away.

Portraits of the whole family

Between the playing, we take a few simple portraits of everyone together. Here is a black and white portrait of a mother with her children in Lisbon, and a family on the Douro riverbank in Porto, where the photographer who lives in the city plans the route so the walks stay short.

Tips for photos with young children

Small things on the day make a big difference to the photos. These are the ones we suggest most often.

  • Plan around nap and snack times. A fed, rested child gives better photos than a perfect location.
  • Bring one favourite toy or snack. It buys a minute of calm when you need it.
  • Choose plain, comfortable clothes. Soft colours and no large logos, in clothes children can move in.
  • Do not push for eye contact. Candid frames, such as a child laughing at a parent, often become the favourites.
  • Let us set the pace. We stop when the children need to stop, and we keep the walk short.

How a family session works

  1. Tell us about your family. Send the number of people and the children’s ages.
  2. Pick a place and a time. We suggest a spot and an hour that fit nap times and the light.
  3. Play first, pose never. We let the children settle, then photograph what they do.
  4. Get your gallery. Your edited private gallery arrives within 7 days, in full resolution and without watermarks.

Common questions

Are these real family sessions?

Yes. These photos come from real family sessions by our team in Portugal. We do not use stock photos.

Can you photograph toddlers and babies?

Yes. We keep the pace slow, stop for breaks and photograph what the children do rather than asking for poses.

How long should a family session be?

One hour is a good default for a family with young children, because it leaves time for breaks. Thirty minutes works for short attention spans.

Where is best for a family photoshoot?

Beaches, parks and wide squares work best because children have room to move. We suggest a place based on your children’s ages and your date.

Can grandparents and cousins join?

Yes. Sessions cover up to 2 people, and more people can join; the terms are on the booking page.

How long until I get my photos?

You receive a private online gallery within 7 days, in full resolution and without watermarks.
