Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
The highest viewpoint in Lisbon. Panoramic views over the castle, the Tagus and the whole city. Calmer than other miradouros, especially at golden hour.
Best time: golden hour, weekday. Arrive 15 min early for a quieter angle.
Miradouro da Graça
One of Lisbon’s most photographed viewpoints — wide, open space with the castle and city spread out below. Large enough to always find a private corner.
Best time: golden hour or early morning.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
Blue-and-white tiled terrace with bougainvillea and a dreamy view over Alfama’s rooftops and the river. Smaller than other miradouros — best on weekdays for more privacy.
Best time: golden hour, weekday.
Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Overlooking Alfama’s rooftops and the river, one of Lisbon’s most photogenic viewpoints. Best timed outside peak hours for a more private moment.
Best time: early morning, before the tour groups arrive.
Belém Riverside
The Tagus riverside near Belém Tower offers reflections on the water, open sky and strong sunset light. Clean and cinematic, with room to find a quieter stretch.
Best time: golden hour, an hour before sunset.
Praça do Comércio
Lisbon’s grand riverside square, framed by the Rua Augusta Arch. Early morning keeps it quiet enough for a proposal before the square fills up.
Best time: sunrise, before the crowds arrive.
Ponto Final — Almada side
A quiet waterfront restaurant terrace across the river, facing the Lisbon skyline. A short ferry ride away and almost never crowded — different from every other spot on this list.
Best time: golden hour, facing back toward Lisbon.
Torre de Belém area
Lisbon’s most recognisable landmark, right on the river. Best appreciated from a slight distance, with the tower as backdrop rather than a crowded foreground.
Best time: late afternoon, sun behind the tower.
Alfama — Hidden alleys
For couples who’d rather skip the viewpoints entirely, Alfama’s quiet stepped alleys give a completely private, almost cinematic setting with zero crowds.
Best time: any time — the alleys are shaded most of the day.
Jardim do Príncipe Real
A leafy garden square with a giant cedar tree and quiet benches. A gentler, greener alternative to the miradouros, good if crowds aren’t your thing.
Best time: late afternoon, dappled light through the trees.
Private rooftop or hotel terrace
If budget allows, a private rooftop removes the crowd question entirely. This proposal was captured on a terrace overlooking Alfama’s rooftops, completely undisturbed.

How do you photograph a proposal without the couple noticing?
We plan the spot and rough timing with the proposer in advance, then position at a natural distance with a longer lens so the moment stays completely genuine. Nothing about the setup tips off the other person.
What if the weather changes on the day?
We reschedule at no extra cost, or adapt to a covered alternative if you’re on a tight travel window. Mist and light rain often photograph beautifully in Lisbon anyway.
