Sunset Proposal at Ponto Final, Almada: How to Plan It

The crossing is the best part of the plan. The ferry from the terminal behind Cais do Sodré station takes less than 10 minutes, with three or four sailings an hour, and you step off right in Cacilhas. From there the restaurant is a waterfront walk of roughly 10 to 15 minutes, according to 2foodtrippers.

1. Reach Cais do Sodré. The ferry terminal is behind the train station, on the riverfront, and the green metro line ends at the station.
2. Buy a ticket and cross. Tickets are sold at the terminal machines and ticket office. Check the timetable and any disruption notices on the operator’s site (TTSL) before you leave.
3. Walk from the Cacilhas terminal. Follow the waterfront towards Rua do Ginjal. Allow 15 minutes so nobody arrives hot, rushed or checking a map.
4. Plan the return. Sailings run late into the night; since June 2026 the last boat leaves at about 02:30, but check the day’s timetable at dinner.

Ponto Final looks north across the river at Lisbon. In summer the sun sets to the left of the skyline, towards the river mouth and the bridge. In winter it goes down behind you, which lights the city frontally and warm. This is our own reading of the sun’s path, and we check the exact angle on the day.

The best light comes in the 30 minutes before sunset and the 20 minutes after it, when the river turns pink and the city lights start to come on. The photographer’s job is to disappear until the moment arrives. We agree the timeline with you beforehand: the arrival time, who sits where, and a small signal. Then we arrive separately, dress like any other guest and work from a distance with a long lens. We use natural light, not flash, so nobody at the next table notices.

1. Before the day. We agree the route, the time you reach the quay and the signal. You tell your partner a simple cover story, such as a sunset dinner across the river.
2. Arrival. You cross on the ferry and walk along the waterfront while we are already in position. The walk itself is often where the first natural photos happen.
3. The moment. At the table or on the edge of the quay you propose, and we shoot the surprise, the reaction and the ring from a distance.
4. Afterglow. Once the first minutes pass, we take 10 to 15 minutes of portraits on the pier while the river catches the last light, then you go back to dinner.

On the evening shown in this guide, the couple had a table close to the water, the proposal happened there as the sun went down and the portraits followed on the pier. We are not naming the couple, and their story is only here to show how an evening like this runs.
