What a Proposal Photographer Costs in Portugal: What It Depends On

What a surprise proposal session costs depends on its length and how many people join. Here is what each length covers and how to avoid paying for more than you need.

Updated October 2026 Sessions of 30 min, 1 h and 1.5 h Written by local photographers

The proposal photographer cost with us depends on two things: how long the session lasts and how many people join. The current prices are on the booking page, and the sessions are the same in Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais and Porto.

For a surprise proposal we recommend the 1-hour or 1.5-hour session. Below is what each length gives you, what else can change the proposal photographer cost, a fair look at another service’s published prices, and where you can skip paying. The booking page always shows the current figures.

Quick answer

The price depends on the session length (30 minutes, 1 hour or 1.5 hours) and on the number of people. Every session includes professional editing, a private online gallery within 7 days, full resolution without watermarks, and location scouting. One hour is the best balance for most proposals. Current prices are on the booking page.

How much does a proposal photographer cost in Portugal?

The honest answer is that it depends on three things, and none of them is the word “proposal”. A proposal is booked exactly like any other session, with no separate proposal surcharge. What shapes the price is the time we are with you, how many people are in the photos, and whether you add a ticketed monument.

30 minup to 25 edited photos
1 hourup to 40 edited photos
1.5 hours60+ edited photos

Every session includes the same things, so the choice is only about time:

  • Professional editing. Every delivered photo is edited by us, so retouching is not an extra.
  • A private online gallery within 7 days. Full resolution, no watermarks, so you can download, print and post the photos yourselves.
  • Location scouting. We pick the spot and the timing for you, which matters when the goal is a proposal that looks effortless.
  • Up to two people in a session. That covers the two of you. More people can join, up to 10 in total, and the booking page has the details.

So when you compare quotes, compare these three things first: how long the session is, how many edited photos you receive, and whether the gallery is delivered at full resolution without watermarks. A lower headline number that leaves out any of them is not the same service.

For a broader look at everything that goes into a session in the capital, our Lisbon photoshoot cost guide covers couples, families and solo sessions. This page stays focused on proposals.

Which session length is right for a proposal?

The proposal itself takes a minute or two. The time you book is mostly the moments around it: the walk to the spot, the build-up that does not give anything away, and the photos afterwards when you are both a bit shaky and very happy.

30 min

Quick and tight

Enough for the proposal and a handful of portraits if you are already at the spot and ready, with up to 25 photos in the gallery. Less room for a second look, a retake or a calm breath afterwards.

Works if the spot is fixed and you are staying close to it.
1 hour

Comfortable, our usual advice

Time for the walk, the proposal and a proper set of celebration portraits in warm light, with up to 40 photos in the gallery.

The best balance for most couples.
1.5 hours

Relaxed, with room to spare

Space for a second angle or nearby spot, a few quiet minutes after you say yes, and 60+ photos in the gallery.

Worth it if you want portraits after the proposal as well.

A practical way to choose: if you plan one location within a short walk and want the proposal plus about ten minutes of portraits, 1 hour is plenty. If you want a second place, a slower pace or both of you in different outfits, take 1.5 hours. We would only suggest 30 minutes if timing is genuinely tight, for example a fixed dinner reservation right after.

What can change the cost of a proposal shoot?

The session options are simple, but a few real-life details can change what you end up paying. None of them are hidden fees; they are the things we ask about when you message us, and the booking page shows the current figures for each.

Session length30 minutes, 1 hour or 1.5 hours
Number of peopleUp to 2 per session, up to 10 in total
Paying by cardSmall processing fee, avoidable via WhatsApp
Entry tickets in SintraAt cost, per visitor including the photographer

If a parent, a sibling or a friend is going to appear in the photos, count them in from the start. The card processing fee can be avoided: we can arrange a way to pay without it on WhatsApp. And the step from 1 hour to 1.5 hours is the one choice that really changes the price, so it is worth deciding early.

One more thing is not a cost but affects the result: if your two spots are far apart, every minute spent travelling is a minute less of photos. Staying in one neighbourhood keeps the whole session on the proposal.

Heads up on Sintra. The gardens, viewpoints and streets are free to shoot in. Going inside Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, Regaleira or Monserrate needs an entry ticket per visitor, including the photographer, and each site has its own photography rules, with professional photography possibly needing prior authorisation. We pass the ticket cost on at cost and confirm it with you first, before you commit to anything.

How do other services price proposal photography?

It helps to compare like with like. Flytographer, a global booking platform, lists proposal shoots on its booking page at the prices below, in US dollars, as of October 2026. The page notes that some photographers charge additional travel fees for specific routes, which are listed on their profiles.

30 minutes · 20 photos$425
60 minutes · 35 photos$525
90 minutes · 50 photos$690

Our sessions include up to 25, 40 and 60+ edited photos for 30, 60 and 90 minutes, a private gallery within 7 days, full resolution without watermarks, and location scouting, and our current prices are on the booking page. When you compare, look at the total for your exact location, the number of photos and what is in the delivery, and check the current exchange rate for the dollar figures. The right choice also depends on what matters to you, such as a platform’s booking tools or a photographer who lives where you are proposing. We wrote a longer comparison of Flytographer and a local photographer in Lisbon if you want the full picture.

What you do not need to pay for

Some proposal advice online is really an upsell. These are the things we think you can skip.

  • A separate scouting fee. Choosing the spot, checking the light and planning the timing are part of every session. If you would like us to choose, the “Surprise me” option lets us pick the location.
  • Extra editing or download charges. The gallery is professionally edited, full resolution and watermark free, so there is no per-photo charge to add.
  • A bigger session than the moment needs. One hour covers the walk, the proposal and the portraits afterwards for most couples. Book 1.5 hours for the extra time, not for the proposal itself.
  • A paid venue when a free view will do. Public viewpoints and gardens in Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais cost nothing to shoot in, and the photographs do not need a ticketed monument to look good.

How far ahead should you book a proposal photographer?

As soon as you know your dates. We are available daily between 09:00 and 20:00, and a message on WhatsApp is the quickest way to find out whether your day and time are free. If your travel plans are still flexible, tell us the range and we will suggest the best day.

Time of day affects both the light and the crowds, and in autumn and winter the sun sets early. A golden-hour proposal in those months means starting in mid-afternoon, so a 1-hour or 1.5-hour session fits comfortably into the light that is left. These are the sunset times in Lisbon, as of October 2026:

10 November 2026Sunset about 17:27
1 December 2026Sunset about 17:15
21 December 2026Sunset about 17:18
Late June 2027Sunset about 21:05

The figures come from the November, December and June 2027 tables on sunrise-sunset.org. A summer sunset after 21:00 is later than our 20:00 window, so if you want the very last light of a summer evening, message us first and we will tell you what is possible. For a month-by-month look at light and crowds, our best time to propose in Portugal guide goes further.

How do you book a proposal photographer and keep it a surprise?

Booking is four short steps, and none of them need your partner to see anything.

  1. Choose a session. Pick the length, the location and the date on the booking page, or choose “Surprise me” and we select the location.
  2. Message us or pay by card to reserve. Either check availability first or reserve with a card payment straight away.
  3. Confirm the details on WhatsApp. That is where we agree the meeting point, the timing and how you want the moment handled.
  4. Keep that chat private. Use a different device or silence the notifications for that conversation, so a message from us does not pop up while you are walking together.

Tell us on WhatsApp what matters: that you want us out of sight until the moment, or that a friend is coming to watch. Our guide to planning a surprise proposal in Portugal covers the planning side in more depth.

On payment: you can reserve by card, which carries a small processing fee, or ask on WhatsApp about an alternative that avoids it. We do not publish payment details on the website; they are shared once you are in touch.

If it rains. If the weather is clearly unfavourable, the session is rescheduled at no extra cost. We make that decision together the evening before, so you are not left guessing on the morning of a proposal. If your trip is short, tell us at booking so we can look for a backup day.

Does the cost change in Sintra, Cascais or Porto?

The session price does not change by city; the setting does.

Lisbon

Viewpoints and the riverside

The classic proposal settings, from the rooftops of Alfama to the Tagus at Belém. No ticket needed for the public viewpoints.

Same price as everywhere else.
Sintra and Cascais

Gardens, cliffs and coast

Cascais lets the coast do the work. In Sintra, remember the ticket rule above if you want to go inside a palace.

Free outdoors, tickets at cost inside.
Porto

A photographer who lives there

Porto sessions are shot by a photographer who lives in Porto, which helps with timing and with the spots that work in different weather.

Same price, local knowledge.
