Best Seafood Restaurants in Lisbon for Every Budget
Thirteen seafood restaurants in Lisbon, Cascais and Costa da Caparica, from market lunches to special-occasion tables, with addresses and the days they close.
The best seafood restaurants in Lisbon range from a lunch-only market counter to the famous Ramiro, and the right one depends on how much you want to spend and which day of the week you are free.
This is our list of the best seafood restaurants in Lisbon, with two short trips out of the city, to Costa da Caparica and Cascais. We grouped them by budget, gave each one an address, and noted the closing day wherever the restaurant’s own website states it. We checked everything in October 2026. We do not quote menu prices, because shellfish is sold by weight and changes with the market.
For a classic night out, book Cervejaria Ramiro or walk into Cervejaria Ribadouro; for a quiet lunch, try the market restaurant in Alvalade; for a view, go to Mar do Inferno in Cascais. Ramiro, Senhor Peixe and Mar do Inferno each have a weekly closing day, so check it before you cross the city.
What are the best seafood restaurants in Lisbon? A quick comparison
Here are the closing days and opening hours that each restaurant publishes itself. The places not in this table either do not publish hours online or list hours that have changed recently, so we flag them in the sections below and suggest you confirm by phone.
Tell us which evening you are eating out and we will plan a short photo walk in the good light before or after dinner, in the same neighbourhood.

These three are the casual end of the list: simple rooms, no ceremony, and food that is cooked to order. Two are in Lisbon and one is on the beach at Costa da Caparica.
Restaurante do Mercado de Alvalade
Inside the market building on Rua José Duro (shop 26), up a set of stairs on the side away from the main entrance. Time Out describes a fish restaurant with whole fish grilled by weight, shown in a display case, and daily specials.
Lunch only, Monday to Saturday according to Time Out; phone to confirmMarisqueira do Lis
A traditional seafood house at Avenida Almirante Reis 27 B, a few doors from Ramiro. The menu mixes shellfish with pregos (steak sandwiches) and meat or fish cooked to order from the display case.
Closed Tuesday, per its own pageO Barbas
A long-running fish and seafood restaurant at Praia do CDS, on Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral. Cataplanas and caldeirada (fish stew) are the specialities.
Time Out lists shorter hours on Wednesday; check first
Costa da Caparica makes a good half day. Most visitors take the ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas, then a bus to Caparica, and sources put the whole trip at roughly 50 minutes. Bus numbers and operators have changed in recent years, so check the timetable on the Carris Metropolitana site before you go. For the city side of the trip, our Lisbon transport guide explains tickets and routes, although it was written before the 2025 lift closures.
Which mid-range seafood restaurants in Lisbon are worth booking?
The middle of the list is where most visitors will eat: five places with a proper menu and a mix of fish, shellfish and rice dishes. Expect the bill to rise quickly if you order shellfish by the kilo.
Cervejaria Ribadouro
At Avenida da Liberdade 155, with a menu that its own website describes as centred on seafood: lobster, spider crab, tiger prawns, a seafood platter and petiscos such as clams Bulhão Pato and garlic prawns.
Open daily; same-day reservations are by phone onlySenhor Peixe
On Rua da Pimenta by the river, away from the old centre. Fish is grilled over holm oak charcoal, and the menu adds caldeirada, fried cuttlefish and lobster rice.
Closed Monday; Sunday lunch onlyMonte Mar Lisboa
A waterfront restaurant at Armazém 65 on Rua da Cintura do Porto de Lisboa, with a terrace over the Tagus. The kitchen serves fish and shellfish, including cockle rice and grilled fish.
Open daily, 12:00 to 23:00Cervejaria O Palácio
A traditional marisqueira at Rua Prior do Crato 142, in a part of Alcântara with several seafood houses. Time Out lists razor clams, mantis shrimp and goose barnacles among the specialities.
Hours on listings are old; phone aheadAqui Há Peixe
At Rua da Trindade 18 A, near Baixa-Chiado metro. The founders left in 2025 and new owners kept the name; the menu has long been built on grilled fish and cataplanas.
Closed Monday on past listings; confirm current hours
Ownership changes are worth a check. Time Out reported in 2025 that Aqui Há Peixe had changed hands, so reviews written before then may not describe today’s kitchen. Read the Time Out report (in Portuguese).
Where to eat seafood in Lisbon for a special occasion
These four are the places to book for an anniversary or a last night. Two are famous cervejarias, one is a modern fish counter with a sushi menu, and one sits above the cliffs in Cascais.
Cervejaria Ramiro
The best-known seafood restaurant in Lisbon, at Avenida Almirante Reis 1-H. Reviewers single out grilled tiger prawns and goose barnacles, and the room is loud and busy. It takes bookings through TheFork, which is worth doing because walk-in queues can be long.
Closed Monday; open Sunday until 23:00Cervejaria Liberdade
Inside the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade hotel at number 185, reopened in 2025 after a refit. The hotel highlights oysters, king prawns, carabineros and lobster, and the steak tartare is still prepared at the table.
Hours not published on the hotel page; phone to confirmSea Me, Peixaria Moderna
A fish counter and restaurant at Rua do Loreto 21, with a menu of grilled fish, a seafood platter and sushi, and a sardine nigiri that Time Out names as the signature. Sea Me also opened a second restaurant in Alvalade, at Avenida da Igreja 34, in October 2025.
Time Out lists open daily; confirm the branch you chooseMar do Inferno
At Avenida Rei Humberto II de Itália, on the seafront at Boca do Inferno, with a terrace over the ocean. The restaurant lists fresh fish, shellfish and a grill menu.
Closed Wednesday; other days 12:30 to 22:30
Mar do Inferno is the one that needs a half day. The Cascais line runs from Cais do Sodré and takes roughly 40 minutes, and the restaurant is a short walk or ride from the town centre, on the coastal walkway that links Cascais to Boca do Inferno. Our day trips from Lisbon guide shows how Cascais fits into a day. If you want to combine the meal with photos, see our Cascais and Estoril photographer page.
How do you order seafood in Lisbon without surprises?
Most surprises at the bill come from three habits: shellfish sold by weight, the bread and starters that arrive without being asked, and arriving without a booking. All three are easy to manage.
- Ask the weight and the price. Wild fish and shellfish are often sold by the kilo, and a missing price on the menu usually means this. Taste of Lisboa advises asking the waiter to weigh the fish and tell you the cost before it is cooked.
- Handle the couvert. The bread, butter and starters are only charged if you eat them. Under the 2015 rules summarised by DECO, tell the waiter at the start to take away anything you do not want.
- Book the famous ones. Ramiro takes reservations through TheFork, and Ribadouro takes same-day bookings by phone only. For a weekend dinner, phone or book earlier.
- Check the closing day. Monday is the day many Lisbon restaurants close, and it applies to Ramiro and Senhor Peixe.
- Share. A mariscada (mixed shellfish platter) feeds two or more, and sharing lets you taste the clams, prawns and rice dishes without ordering a full plate each.
For the dishes outside this list, our guide to what to eat in Lisbon covers the classics, and the best bacalhau in Lisbon is the place to go if someone at the table does not eat shellfish. Our list of 7 authentic Portuguese restaurants adds meat and traditional cooking.
How do you plan a seafood day in Lisbon?
Pick the meal first, then build the day around its neighbourhood. This is a pattern that works for most itineraries.
- Choose the band. Casual for a market lunch, mid-range for a relaxed dinner, special occasion for a celebration.
- Check the closing day. Use the table above, then phone for the places that do not publish hours.
- Add the neighbourhood. Pair Ribadouro or Cervejaria Liberdade with an evening on the avenue, Sea Me or Aqui Há Peixe with Chiado, and Monte Mar with the riverside at Cais do Sodré. Our first night in Lisbon guide has more ideas for the evening.
- Allow for travel. Caparica and Cascais each need a half day, and Parque das Nações is on the other side of the city.
Can you combine a seafood dinner with a photoshoot in Lisbon?
Yes, and it is one of the easiest ways to end up with photos that are not selfies. We meet you in the late-afternoon light, walk a short route near where you are eating, and leave you free for dinner. Couples often choose this for an anniversary or a surprise, and our Lisbon photographer page shows the kind of sessions we do. If you plan to propose, see couple photography in Portugal as well.
Every session includes professional editing, a private online gallery within 7 days, full-resolution files with no watermarks and location scouting. To book, choose a session, tell us the date and message us or pay by card to reserve; we confirm the details on WhatsApp, and “Surprise me” lets us choose the spot. Current prices are on the booking page. Coming to Portugal from outside the EU? Our Portugal entry requirements guide explains the documents.
Tell us where you are having dinner and we will build a simple route that fits right before or after your meal.
