Valentine’s Day in Lisbon
Sunset time, February weather, the best places to watch the light and when to book dinner, photos or a proposal for 14 February 2027.
Valentine’s Day in Lisbon falls on a Sunday in 2027, with sunset at about 6:10 pm and an average high near 16°C, so the best plan is a long late-afternoon walk by the river and a dinner you booked well ahead.
This guide to Valentine’s Day in Lisbon is for couples visiting the city. It covers February weather and daylight, three places to watch the light, an afternoon in Belém, when to book dinner and a photo session, and how to plan a proposal for the day. The weather figures are long-term averages, not a forecast, and the opening days come from official and tourism pages we checked in October 2026. They can change, so confirm them before you go.
Plan the day around the light. On 14 February 2027 the sun sets at about 6:10 pm, so be at the river by 5:15 pm. Expect highs near 16°C (61°F) and a roughly one-in-four chance of rain, so pack a coat and a plan B. Reserve dinner as soon as menus appear, and message us several weeks ahead if you want photos or a proposal.
What is the weather like in Lisbon in mid-February?
Mild, often bright and sometimes wet. Portugal’s weather service, IPMA, publishes climate normals for its Lisbon station (Gago Coutinho, 1991 to 2020). For February they show an average daily high of 15.7°C (about 60°F) and an average low of 8.4°C (about 47°F). The month brings 71 mm of rain on average.
Averages hide a lot. Weather2Travel’s February figures add about 5 hours of sun a day and a sea temperature near 14°C. Eight rainy days in a 28-day month works out at about one day in four, so a dry Valentine’s evening is more likely than not, but not guaranteed. Bring a warm layer even if lunch on a terrace feels like spring.
Check the forecast on the right day. IPMA’s forecast by locality covers 10 days with hourly rain, wind and temperature. That means 14 February shows up from about 4 February. Look then, and again on the 13th.
What time is sunset in Lisbon on 14 February?
About 6:10 pm. Lisbon keeps the same time as London in winter, and the day is about 10 hours 45 minutes long on the 14th, with sunrise around 7:28 am. We compared two sunrise and sunset calculators for central Lisbon, which differ by two or three minutes, so the times below are rounded.
The soft, low light starts roughly an hour before sunset, so on the 14th think of 5:15 pm as the start of the good hour (that is our rule of thumb, not an official figure). After the sun drops the sky keeps its colour for a little while, and civil twilight ends at about 6:40 pm. Arrive early rather than late: the best light is gone faster than most couples expect.
Where can you watch the sunset together in Lisbon?
Pick one place and stay there, instead of racing across the hills between three. Our guide to romantic viewpoints in Lisbon has the longer list. These are the three we would choose for 14 February.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
Church domes and the Tagus behind them, a small garden and a pond, and tile panels that show Praça do Comércio before the earthquake, according to Visit Lisboa.
Best for tiles and rooftopsMiradouro da Senhora do Monte
The castle and the church of Graça sit to one side, with the river, the Baixa rooftops and the Carmo ruins ahead, per Visit Lisboa. It is a few metres from the Graça viewpoint.
Best for a calmer viewThe riverfront by the MAAT
Flat, open and right on the water, with the 25 de Abril Bridge in the frame. The MAAT is open Wednesday to Monday, 10:00 to 19:00, so it is open on Sunday the 14th.
Best for a long walk

How do you spend a Valentine’s afternoon in Belém?
Belém suits the day because it is flat and the river does the work. Here is a plan that ends at the water just as the light turns.
- Take the train. The Cascais line leaves Cais do Sodré about every 20 minutes and reaches Belém in around 7 minutes, according to this transport guide. Tram 15 takes about half an hour.
- Do the indoor part first. Visit Lisboa lists the Jerónimos Monastery as open 9:30 to 17:30 with last entry at 5 pm, and closed on Mondays. Sunday is fine, but the 15th is not. Book a date and time online.
- Walk the river. The Padrão dos Descobrimentos is about 1.4 km before Belém Tower on the riverside path, which runs 7.5 km from Cais do Sodré, per Great Runs. You only need a short stretch of it.
- Be at your spot by 5:15 pm. Sunset is about 6:12 pm. Stay until the colour fades, then take the train back for dinner.

Check availabilityWhen should you book dinner for Valentine’s Day in Lisbon?
As soon as your dates are fixed. In Portuguese the day is the Dia dos Namorados, and restaurants and hotels in Lisbon routinely run special set menus for couples. Local press covered such menus on 14 February 2025, and a roundup of Valentine’s plans in Lisbon told readers to make reservations early. As of October 2026 we could not find any 2027 menus yet.
The 14th is a Sunday in 2027. Check that your restaurant is open on Sunday evening before you set your heart on it, and ask whether the Valentine’s menu replaces the normal one. Our advice is to choose the place now and reserve the moment bookings open. A table at 8:00 pm also fits neatly after a photo session or a sunset walk.
Is a couples photo session worth booking for Valentine’s Day in Lisbon?
If you want pictures of the two of you instead of another selfie against the same view, yes. The light is at its best for about an hour before sunset, which on the 14th means roughly 5:15 to 6:15 pm. A one-hour session that starts between 4:45 and 5:15 pm uses all of it and leaves time to walk to dinner.
A session covers up to 2 people, and more people can join, up to 10 in total, with the details on the booking page, where the current prices are also listed. Every session includes a professionally edited private online gallery within 7 days, in full resolution and without watermarks, and location scouting is included. Choose “Surprise me” if you would like us to pick the spot. If the weather is clearly unfavourable we reschedule at no extra cost, and the decision is made together the evening before.
To book, choose a session, location and date, then message us to check availability or pay by card to reserve. We confirm the details on WhatsApp. Card payments carry a small processing fee, and we can arrange another way to pay without it on WhatsApp. Our couple photography page shows what a session looks like.
Message us your travel dates and we will tell you what is possible on the 14th.
Book your Valentine’s sessionCan you propose in Lisbon on Valentine’s Day?
Yes, and it is a good excuse for a plan with a real deadline. We will not repeat the full guides here: where to propose in Lisbon covers the spots, and how to plan a surprise proposal covers the steps. What changes on 14 February is the timing.
- Choose the spot early. We suggest settling on a place and a plan B at least four weeks ahead, so the photographer can scout it.
- Aim for about 5:30 pm. That is shortly before the 6:12 pm sunset, with enough light left to photograph the moment and the walk afterwards.
- Have a covered backup. February rain is real, and we decide together the evening before whether to keep the plan or change it.
- Keep dinner flexible. Reserve a table for 7:30 or 8:00 pm, not 6:30, so nobody rushes the moment.
- Tell us the date by early January. We cannot promise a slot on the 14th, so ask for it before you book anything non-refundable.
